Alone in the night
on a dark hill
With pines around me
Spicy and still,

And a heaven full of stars
Over my head,
White and topaz
And misty red;

Myriads with beating
Hearts of fire
That aeons
Cannot vex or tire;

Up the dome of heaven
Like a great hill,
I watch them marching
Stately and still,

And I know that I
Am honored to be
Witness
Of so much majesty.



별들..

깊은 밤 홀로
어두운 언덕에 오르니
사방에는 향기롭고
고즈넉한 소나무들

머리 위엔
별 가득한 하늘
하얀 별 황옥 별
불그레한 별들

불꽃 심장
고동치는 무수한 별들
영겁도 그 불꽃 심장
괴롭혀 꺼뜨리지 못하네

거대한 언덕 같은
하늘의 둥근 지붕 위로
위엄 있게 조용히
행진하는 별들 바라보네

그리고 난 안다네
내가 영광스럽게도
그 장엄한 광경의
목격자임을

잊어버려요, 한 때 금빛으로 타오르던 불꽃을 잊어버리듯.
영원히, 영원히 잊어버려요.
시간은 다정한 벗, 시간 따라 우리도 늙어갈 테죠.
누가 묻걸랑 말하세요, 벌써 아득히 오래 전에
잊었노라고. 꽃처럼, 불처럼, 오래 전 잊혀진 눈 위에서
사각이던 발자국 소리처럼.
